AUGUST 2025

August 11th

Trump placed Washington, D.C. under federal control and deployed 800 National Guard troops. Trump declared a crime emergency in the capital, and have about 200 guardsmen at a time on the streets, monitoring around the clock

Trump calls for a review of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, to remove details that outline how bad slavery was. Trump claims there is not enough included in the exhibits regarding “success, brightness, future” during the time of slavery. This review will remove the truth about the gruesome history of the US, and aims to reframe slavery and civil rights as a positive part of history.

Data shows Black women disproportionately faced job losses and rising unemployment rates, despite the economy seeing job growth. The unemployment rate for Black women increased from 5.1% in March, reaching as high as 6.7% in August, with the national unemployment rate at 4.3%. Approximately 320,000 Black women lost jobs between February and July 2025

The Impact ..

ERASURE OF HISTORY + THE NEW NARRATIVE

Both Black Americans and American Indians are facing massive erasure, as the Trump administration calls for the removal of historical details of slavery of Black Americans and forced removal of American Indians. This suppression of truth negatively impacts our ability to improve on our past, the way we connect with other people, and feeds stereotypes. During a time where discrimination and political violence are already at a high, this puts these communities further at risk, and limits the next generation’s ability to understand the history of our country, which built the system we are in today

~ Winston Churchill

EMPLOYMENT CRISIS & SYSTEMIC DISINVESTMENT

Due to companies abandoning DEI commitments, massive federal workforce cuts, and small businsses struggling under tariffs, Black women are seeing a surge in unemployment as a result of systemic inequities. Black women are concentrated in public service, nonprofits, and care work, and these sectors have been heavily impacted, cutting stability and security.
Leadership Pipeline
This decline is not only about the current financial loss for Black women, but a huge blow to diversifying the leadership pipeline, as there are fewer Black women in leadership positions to diversify talent. This creates a productivity, profitability, and performance problem, as Black women have essential talent and perspectives
The Economy
Between February 2025 and June 2025, there was an 1.8% drop in Black women's workforce participation, translating to a  $37.2 billion loss in GDP
